The Tolkien Society is excited to announce our next seminar! Following the success of our first online seminar in July this year, we have released the call for papers for the next seminar on Saturday 13th February 2021 with the theme of 'Twenty-first century Receptions of Tolkien'! Like the last one, this seminar will be FREE!

The Romantic Spirit in the Works of J.R.R. Tolkien is a co-edited book by myself and Dr. Julian Eilmann. It will collate a range of views on how Tolkien's works (mythological and not) align with and develop the Romantic project within the context of the twentieth century.

On Saturday 4th July, The Tolkien Society hosted its first online seminar. With the theme of ‘Adapting Tolkien’, the event consisted of ten papers exploring how Tolkien’s inventions have inspired new art and influenced real world events.

Of the many papers, Mina Lukić made a poignant point that stuck with me: new interpretations and perspectives are ‘helping to keep Tolkien’s heritage alive’ by ‘adding value and motivating discussions that attract new people’. You can watch the papers here on the Tolkien Society YouTube page. A published proceedings is currently in the works.
